About the event
The Mayor’s Office on African American Affairs (MOAAA) and the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) are launching Black History Month with “Welcome Black,” showcasing local artists at the Carlyle Room on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
This event aligns with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History’s (ASALH) theme, “African Americans and the Arts.” Comedian, radio personality, and Washington, D.C., native Joe Clair will co-host, guiding a lineup of local talent through a celebration of African Diaspora history.
The showcase will feature Marcus Johnson, TCB, DJ Flava, Heru Peacock, and The Dance Institute of Washington.
On Feb. 24, 2024, from 12 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. ASALH, the founders of Black History Month, will host its 98th annual luncheon to conclude the month. The luncheon will feature Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Dr. Hasan Jeffries, and Denise Rolark Barnes as emcee.
