About the event
Dr. Michelle C. Chatman (Iya Omo Olufina) is a distinguished cultural anthropologist, contemplative scholar-educator, community ritualist, inspiring storyteller, and woman-prenuer. A native of Washington, DC, she proudly serves as an Associate Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at her alma mater, The University of the District of Columbia (UDC), as well as Founding Director of the Mindful and Courageous Action (MICA) Lab, which advances healing-centered praxis in teaching, research, an leadership. Dr. Chatman’s scholarship focuses on critical areas such as urban inequality and the well-being of Black families, holistic youth development, anticolonial pedagogy, mindfulness, and culturally relevant contemplative approaches.
She serves as the Board Chair of the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society (CMIND) and is co-editor of Contemplative Practices and Acts of Resistance in Higher Education: Narratives Toward Wholeness (Routledge, 2025).
