Toni Morrison, born Chloe Ardelia Wofford, was an American novelist, editor, and professor celebrated for exploring the Black American experience, especially that of Black women, through poetic and mythic prose. The first Black woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature (1993), she authored acclaimed novels including The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and the Pulitzer-winning Beloved. She also championed African American voices as a groundbreaking editor at Random House.
